Some bets need a minimum number of runners to be offered. Place pays top 2 or top 3 depending on field size. Confirm current rules and dividends at the racecourse.
Any order — your horses just need to fill the placings, in any arrangement. More forgiving, smaller payout.
Exact order — your horses must finish in the precise order you named. Harder, bigger payout.
Rule of thumb: the more horses a bet needs, and the more it demands exact order, the bigger it pays and the rarer it wins. Beginners stick to the top two rows.
